ELECTIONS

I see from all the post about the elections tomorrow that there is a lot of interest from the large group of Ex-pats that have made Spain their home. I think that it is a shame that we have only just started to get information about what is going on and who to vote for so close to the day. I find forums like this very useful as a means to keeping up with what is going on, and would like to see on going information as to what the next elected party are doing and how we can get involved, and not just a last minute rush. I for one have checked out the PP party and find them good enough for my vote so lets all get behind what is going on in our new home.

I will get off my soap box now.

Quesada

I agree with you 100% Bobby. There is a large group of us now that are here to stay and we need to have a voice and get involved in the local government. It would be nice to get regular updates as I am sure that our votes are important.

But why are we only getting post by the PP party where are all the others?

Commented Tina in La Marina 2011-05-21 09:10:54 UTC

Yes, I find it amazing that no party sent us any information. Details of their policies, how to vote, times, events etc would have been really useful and would no doubt have increased their votes. The fact that neither party thought of that is worrying. I would have liked to participate but as I have only been here about 6 months, I don´t know enough about the politics of Rojales to do so. More knowledge would have encouraged me to vote. Why on Earth did all the parties forget the English and Dutch etc population?

British TV

Hi everyone,
Can anyone give me some advice on what is the best Television system for expats. At the moment we have Spanish tv, which is fine but we do miss a little bit of home and it will be nice to have both. Chris

Torrevieja

Hello Chris,
We have lived here for several years and I am speaking from experience and not from anyone trying to sell you a system.
There are several options available to expats and that depends on many things, firstly and the most important is affordability and second is what you exactly want in terms of channels.
One of the cheapest methods is to have a large dish where(if part of a community)everbody feeds off, which should be a one off cost and no monthly subs. This will give you most British channels and some movies, however no live sport, ie premiership football etc. The other option is you can have a rebroadcaster ie Torresat to install a small dish for you and you will receive eurosport and some live games in addition to all the other channels. This will cost you 21 euros pm. There are other options but they will obviously cost you more. Please feel free to ask any other points you are not sure about.

Hello John,
Thank you for an depth analysis on this subject. Where we are renting at the moment it is mainly Spanish residents and other nationalities,so I don´t believe they have a large dish on the roof solarium. But your open information has given me a better idea of what we can do. I will be talking to the President in my broken Spanish and see what he says.
Will let you know how I get on. Having said that the Torresat system could be a possibility. Regards Chris

Hi everyone, we have just been invited to join your forum and have done so. You will see in the papers and radio that we promote and appear in high quality low cost show tours in the region each month and the next is the Kings, Queens & Diamonds show which is about to start. Take a look at the events board for details of local shows on 23rd and 27th May. Take care all - Peter & Fiona

Nice to see a New fresh faced forum. Does anyone know about this name change for La Marina?

La Marina

It would appear that La Marina Urbanisation name as an area has been Hi-Jacked by San Fulgencio town hall and its Politicians. If you look on Google maps you will see no mention of our Urbanisation at all instead, they only list Los Granes, that seems to cover the older part of our Urbanisation of Oasis, then all the rest of us have now MOVED to La Escuera. So what are these Politicians’ up to. It is Election time coming up, so how about a few answers from them.

At long last we all once again live at La Marina. Thanks to the IT people our map now shows us as in La Marina. Google for years had shown ua all as being in La Escuera. Well done and thanks.
